Our Space
At Cabin in the Bush Songwriters Studio we offer a unique, inspiring space where you can plug in your laptop, settle in, and get into a creative songwriting flow. We are located 100 metres from the beach nestled next to Karuah Nature Reserve in an area often referred to as the "forgotten city". We are 20 mins from Newcastle Airport and 2 hours north of Sydney.

In the box
The heart of the studio uses an RME Digiface (with great driver support) and four Apogee Ensemble Interfaces with 12 excellent mic pres. If you want to stay completely in the box then this offers a top of the range front-end. The studio is designed for visiting producers to plug in and work as fast as possible. We supply full templates for Ableton, Logic and Luna so that all inputs/outputs are mapped and labeled.
Analog
If you want to close your laptop we have a Fostex D2424 which runs into our Soundtracs Megas Studio desk. It has 28 mono, 4 stereo and 24 busses and has recently been serviced and upgraded. The compressors (Klark Technik x8, Alctron Neve 2254 Clone x2) are spread across the buss channels so you can sub-mix / sum with real outboard. We have a range of outboard effects that are curated to give you something that you can't get in the box with a focus us on reverb and delay.

Accomodation
There is a range of historic accomodation available just up the road (10 mins walk to studio) in Tahlee, see here. Starting with campsites to cabins, houses, and a colonial style waterfront cottage, which you can book via AirBnB here.

Engineer
My name is Martin Bell and I am an astrophysicist by trade and I spent 15 years studying black holes and other explosive events in the Universe using radio telescopes (more about my work here). In my spare time, I’ve spent the past two decades writing, performing, and producing music.
At heart, I’m an engineer, combining my background in acoustics and physics with a lifelong passion for sound and gear. This is my home studio that I am opening up for use by fellow producers in the area. The studio comes as a "dry hire", so I can technically set you up for a good day and I am on hand if you have issues.

Surfing + Beaches
We have some great surf spots near the studio. Seal Rocks is a classic point break, while Cellitos and Dark Point are accessible by 4x4 and Bennetts caters to begginers.
